Let's get ready for the New Year!
Confession - I'm not a huge fan of New Year Resolutions. I've done them. But really, I think we should be setting goals and working to improve ourselves all year long. I understand, however, how the New Year is time of reflection and renewed hope. So let's make it easy!
There are a dozen forms available for setting goals. I'm already overwhelmed when I see a kit with 20 forms. All I need is a goal index, where I can see all my goals at once, and then a plan and tracking sheet. That's it! So that's what I designed.
The LDS church has an awesome program for the youth. They are encouraged to set goals in four different categories - Spiritual, Intellectual, Social and Physical.
Tip #1 - choose goals for different areas of your life. Use the categories above, or come up with your own.
Tip #2 - set goals that are measurable, where you can see progress and growth along the way.
Tip #3 - write down the reason for the goal, your motivation and rewards, if applicable.
Tip #4 - choose a tracking frequency that is practical and encouraging. I find that checking a box for each day I do something is more encouraging than having required boxes that are left unchecked if I miss that day.
Tip #5 - check-in and adjust goals as needed. Don't give up on them.
